About

My husband and I live in upstate New York and spend time in northeastern Pennsylvania. We have two wonderful children, now young adults, and three rescue kitties.

My Irish surname, taken in marriage, has become a kind of pen name, masking my identity as a fourth-generation Polish American.  When I was a child, relatives would come to the house and tell stories in Polish and English and laugh long into the evenings.  I feel close to all my fictional characters, but particularly my Polish ones.  It must be the DNA of the heart.

An early love of reading—and those stories!—became a need to write.  Although bringing an idea to fulfillment in fictional form is a great thrill and its own reward, recognition and publication do offer validation from the outer world as well as alleviate the sense of writing in a bubble.  And it often translates into a few good inner voices to chase out all the negative ones.  Here are some of my writing accomplishments as well as education and work background:

Work and Education

I’ve taught English composition and literature at colleges in Michigan, England, Pennsylvania, and Hawaii, and have held writing workshops in the schools. For several Binghamton, New York, Imagination Celebrations, I wrote and devised interactive reading “quests” so children and parents could go on city-wide hunts, using clues in the stories. I’ve also appeared as a visiting author at Symphony Space in New York City during a summer reading camp.
  • PhD – State University of New York at Binghamton (now Binghamton University)
  • MA – The University of Michigan
  • BA – Aquinas College, Grand Rapids, Michigan
